About Me

Hi, my name is Raymond Friend. I am a second year graduate employee attending Penn State University in Mathematics. I attended Penn State for my undergraduate years as well, where I obtained bachelor degrees in both Mathematics and Physics, with honors in Mathematics. I attended Perkiomen Valley High School before that in a rural suburb of Philadelphia, PA, US.

During my time at Penn State, I have become increasingly involved with environmental justice and action. I serve as the Graduate Chair on Eberly College of Science's Sustainability Council and a member of the Student Sustainability Advisory Council's Carbon Neutral Working Group, I have taken multiple courses through Sunrise School (offered by the Sunrise Movement, a youth-led movement pushing for the Green New Deal), and supported divestment from fossil fuels with Awaken State.

As an undergraduate, I served as the Vice President and Treasurer of my school's Math Club, as well as the President and Secretary of PSU Club XC, a long-distance running club on campus (and the largest in the nation). I am also a co-founder of the State of Club Running, a national reflection on the successes and difficulties of running clubs within NIRCA.

Other descriptive labels one could ascribe to me include: queer, vegan, and adventurous. I have many interests like playing piano, video editing, embroidery, running, biking, and climbing.
